A popular tourist town that is thronged by travelers despite being at the altitude of breathless 3505 meters. Leh is the most important town of Ladakh region in Kashmir. The town is surrounded by high mountain peaks of Himalayas and wonderful lakes.
Leh is important center of Buddhism in India. The town has several Buddhist monasteries some ruined but despite that should be visited by the tourists.

Soma Gompa - The gompa was built to mark the 2,500 birth anniversary of Buddha. The gompa is located near the main bazaar in Leh.
Shey Monastery - Constructed by the first King of Ladakh, Shey Monastery was the residence of royal family that later moved to Ladakh Palace.
White-water rafting - can be enjoyed at the Zaskar and Indus rivers in Leh. Rafting route of Indus river comes in the category of 5 which could be quite dangerous.
